As Real Madrid brace themselves for a difficult phase where the team’s depth will be tested, the club appear to have fast-tracked their plans for the season ahead.

For a long time, Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Martin Zubimendi, who is one of the highly-rated midfielders in Spain.

According to The Athletic, there is a growing discussion within the Real Madrid camp surrounding the club’s interest in Zubimendi.

It appears the Spanish midfielder is emerging as an ideal pick for Real Madrid as they look to find a perfect fit for the number six role.

Currently plying his trade for Real Sociedad, Zubimendi has been closely linked with a move away from Anoeta quite a number of times, but his club have managed to fend off suitors.

However, things could change in the summer, as Real Madrid look to put pressure on Real Sociedad, knowing the midfielder’s contract expires in 2027.

Although there could be significant competition from Arsenal in the summer, Los Blancos do have the upper hand when it comes to providing the midfielder with the prospect of replacing Toni Kroos in the number six slot.

Given the way Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga have struggled with injuries, Zubimendi himself will be aware of the Real Madrid opportunity that beckons.

Keeping that in mind, it will be interesting to see how this Zubimendi saga unfolds in the coming summer.
