A fresh racist incident marred Saturday’s Spanish second-division match between Real Sociedad B and Castellon, which was briefly halted after Kazunari Kita alleged he was racially abused.

According to L'Équipe, the referee crossed his arms to activate the anti-racism protocol near the end after the Japanese player raised the complaint.

The referee’s report states that Kita, 20, told the referee that opponent Alberto Jimenez Benitez had used a racist slur, with an expletive, referring to him as Chinese.

It added that no member of the officiating team heard the alleged words on the pitch.

Last week, a similar incident occurred in La Liga during Elche v Espanyol Barcelona, which was interrupted after Morocco international Omar El Hilali complained of insults from Rafa Mir, who is also under formal investigation for rape.
