Real Sociedad confirm August friendly at Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea | OneFootball

Real Sociedad will round off pre-season with a glamour friendly at Stamford Bridge. The club confirmed on Tuesday they will visit Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea on 15 August.

Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side had been slated to start La Liga on 15 August against José Mourinho’s Real Madrid. With several players from both clubs involved in the World Cup final, La Liga moved that fixture to 26 August, creating room for a final high level test in London.

The Chelsea date will be their third match in England this pre-season. Real face Wolves on Saturday 25 July, then Aston Villa, managed by Unai Emery, on 28 July.

Before the London trip, they will stop in France on 31 July to meet Toulouse. A German expedition follows, with a double-header against Colonia on seven and eight August.

The clubs last met on 12 August 2014 in a friendly, which Chelsea won 2-0 with a Diego Costa brace. Back then the Blues featured Cesc Fábregas, Mo Salah and Fernando Torres, while Jagoba Arrasate and José Mourinho were in the dugouts.

Real hope to have captain and newly crowned world champion Mikel Oyarzabal available. He is due back at Zubieta on 10 August and could join the squad for the London trip.
