A refereeing adviser has claimed Al-Hilal should have been awarded a late penalty against Al-Taawoun in Round 27 of the Roshen Professional League.
Speaking on Action with Walid, referee adviser Mohamed Foda set out his view after Saturday’s match. The result cost Al-Hilal two points, leaving them on 65 points in second place, level with third-placed Al-Ahli Jeddah and five behind Al-Nassr.
Foda said a spot kick should have been given in the 78th minute for a clear foul on Brazilian forward Marcos Leonardo.
He added that the referee overlooked the incident and was not advised by VAR to review it, arguing the Al-Taawoun defender brought down Leonardo and that his right foot was in an unnatural position.
The fixture featured several contentious calls amid a fierce title battle at the top of the table.
