The Direction de l'arbitrage said in its weekly debrief that Brest should have been awarded a late penalty for Benjamin André's handball in Lille's 1-1 draw with Brest on Saturday.
Pathé Mboup's acrobatic effort struck André's arm, yet VAR did not send referee M. Bel El Hadj to the monitor and a free-kick was given to Lille for an attacking foul by Mboup.
The review judged that Mboup legally gained position and his challenge was controlled, so the attacking foul was not established.
André's arm was deemed to have made his body unnaturally bigger, and previous contact with his flank did not negate the handball. VAR should have extended the check and advised an on-field review, with a penalty expected under Law 12. It was the 10th acknowledged error of the Ligue 1 season from 59 decisions examined since matchday one.
In a separate case, the decision to dismiss Alexandre Golovine in Monaco's 3-1 win over Nantes on Friday was validated. He was cautioned for dissent, then shown a second yellow for applauding referee M. Wattellier in the 65th minute.
