Régis Le Bris has been handed a timely lift with £17.5million attacker Nilson Angulo back in training at the Academy of Light. According to Sunderland Echo, the 22-year-old has stepped up his recovery on the grass.
Angulo suffered a muscle tear in the build-up to Sunderland’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion on March 14. Le Bris initially said the winger could be out for between four and six weeks, and he missed the Tyne-Wear derby win at Newcastle United.
Fresh images have raised hopes he could feature again before the end of the campaign, although it remains unlikely he will be available for this weekend’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur at the Stadium of Light.
The forward was named in Ecuador’s provisional squad for friendlies against Morocco and the Netherlands, then withdrew to continue his rehabilitation on Wearside during the international break. He returned to England after leaving the camp early.
Angulo’s return to the training pitches is a welcome development for Sunderland as they approach the run-in, following his move to Wearside in January.
