Regis Le Bris says Simon Adingra’s long-term Sunderland prospects remain unresolved after the winger’s sharp start on loan at AS Monaco, and he welcomes the upturn as potentially beneficial to the club.

According to Sunderland Echo, the Ivorian arrived during a flurry of signings after promotion back to the Premier League last year, but inconsistent displays on Wearside led to a deadline-day switch to Monaco in January.

He has since scored three goals in four Ligue 1 matches, his latest a fine strike against Angers SCO at the weekend, and made his Champions League debut against Paris Saint-Germain last month.

Le Bris said the forward remains a Sunderland player and that if he performs well it could help the Black Cats later. He added that Adingra probably lacked the confidence and reference points to play with freedom earlier in the season, whereas Monaco are likely more dominant, have more of the ball and experienced players, which helps create the right context. He hopes that builds a strong foundation, whether for Sunderland or for someone else, and accepts that remains unknown.

Adingra explained that Monaco outlined their interest, his qualities and the project, and he quickly sensed the club’s ambition in talks with head coach Sebastien Pocognoli. The sporting plan, style and environment appealed, and operating in a French-speaking league should ease his adaptation. He aims to help the team and show his best.

Reflecting on Sunderland, he said the season included difficult moments, and he now wants to focus on the present with the Red and Whites. He feels very good physically and mentally and confident about what is ahead. He said enjoyment is vital for his skill set and comes with minutes, and that a recent lack of games meant the move was about regaining confidence, rhythm and a sense of self.
