Sunderland return to Premier League action against Nottingham Forest at the Stadium of Light tonight, with Régis Le Bris weighing up significant selection calls.

According to Sunderland Echo, the head coach is expected to have the same squad available as at Aston Villa last Sunday, and he has strong bench options if he opts to reshuffle.

In goal, Robin Roefs has enjoyed a superb season and has a big part to play. At right back, Nordi Mukiele has been restored over the last couple of weeks and, viewed by Le Bris as central to Sunderland’s attacking threat at home, appears certain to keep his place.

Centre-back Dan Ballard was handled cautiously last week but, after minutes at Villa Park and a full week of training, it would be a major surprise if he were not restored to the XI. Omar Alderete has been outstanding and integral in and out of possession. He came off in the second half last week due to illness, with five or six Sunderland players affected, but should be fit to start.

The depth on the bench gives Le Bris room to tweak if required, yet this core looks likely as Sunderland chase a result to bolster hopes of a top-half finish and a potential European place.
