Tijjani Reijnders says he can’t wait to make his Premier League bow for City.
Having joined City from AC Milan early in the June transfer window, Reijnders made an impressive instant impact at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup held in the United States.
After a subsequent break across the bulk of July, Reijnders’ return along with the rest of the squad saw him shine once again and also twice find the target in last weekend’s 3-0 friendly win away to City’s CFG sister club Palermo in Sicily.
Now, the Dutch international is in contention to make his maiden Premier League appearance as Pep Guardiola’s side prepare to launch our 2025/26 campaign away at Wolves on Saturday teatime (kick-off 17.30 UK).
For the 27-year-old, it’s a prospect he has been eagerly counting down to.
“Everyone always talks about the Premier League. To now play in it, it’s an unbelievable feeling,” Reijnders said.
“I’m really looking forward to the pace of the game and the quality of the players. I’m really excited – I can’t wait.
“I played against West Ham in the past and I really felt the physicality of an English team.
“I know a bit about English teams. I’m looking forward to the duels in the midfield against my direct opponents and showing my strengths.
“Pre-season has gone well. It has been tough, but we are ready and I’m 100 per cent fit.
“For me, it’s now about winning trophies with this club.
“Playing in the Premier League and Champions League and going for trophies every year – it attracts me the most.
“I can’t wait – I’m really looking forward to the new season.”
City boss Guardiola has been effusive in his praise about the qualities Reijnders has brought to the Club – and the way he has seamlessly blended in.
For his part, the Dutchman believes working under one of the world’s greatest managers – and a man who was also a world class midfield exponent to boot over the course of a stellar playing career – will help him become an even more complete midfielder.
“It’s a proud thing [to be working under Pep] – he’s one of the best coaches there is,” Reijnders added.
“To become even more complete as a midfielder is why I made the choice to join Manchester City.
“I had a good season with AC Milan, and you always want to get better.
“I will try to reach my highest level here – with a coach and team like this, I think I can make those steps quicker and I think I will learn a lot here.
“It’s about the position you take when you have the ball, but also how we want to press the opponent and giving them no time to think when they have the ball.
“I can now see close how it works.
“I’m a midfielder who likes to play box-to-box – starting with the build-up and be the connection to the attacking phase.
“I’m always looking to try and score a goal or give an assist.
“That’s the kind of midfielder I am like.”
