Speaking in a Lance! quiz, former Flamengo forward and 1999 Mercosul champion Reinaldo labelled Cruzeiro’s Kaio Jorge the best striker currently playing in Brazil.

In the same feature, he said his first goal and debut for Flamengo were defining moments in his career.

Kaio Jorge impressed last season. Despite Cruzeiro winning no titles, he featured in 46 matches, scoring 26 goals and delivering nine assists.

This season he has five goals in seven appearances, most recently on Wednesday (11) from the penalty spot against Mirassol in the Brasileirão.

Flamengo targeted Kaio Jorge at the start of this transfer window, but after several attempts and Cruzeiro’s refusal, negotiations ended.

Attention now shifts to Flamengo’s Carioca quarter-final against Botafogo on Sunday (15) at the Nilton Santos, with kick-off at 17:30 Brasília time.
