The relationship between Barcelona and Real Madrid has had its share of ups and downs over the years with both clubs having periods of turmoil interspersed in other periods of truce.

Recent years, especially in light of the European Super League and the dream of disrupting world football with a novel idea, saw both clubs operate seemingly in brotherhood as they have had each other’s back time and time again.

Now, as relayed by AS in a recent update, the smooth sailing will no longer continue as the relationship between the two arch-rivals has once again definitively taken a turn for the worse.

Perez’s statements ratify the new reality

Indeed, the Spanish media outlet confirm that Barcelona and Real Madrid will no longer continue the relationship where they publicly back one another. If the animosity in the recent El Clasico did not make it clear, Florentino Perez’s statements earlier today did.

Speaking at the General Assembly, the Real Madrid president lashed out with scathing attacks on the Catalan club for their involvement in the Negreira Scandal.

Concurrently, he also addressed how Barcelona are reportedly close to Real Madrid’s public rivals including UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and La Liga president Javier Tebas who have seemingly favoured the Blaugrana in recent times.

The downfall of relations between the clubs have been ongoing for a while now, and it all began when Los Blancos vowed to pursue Barcelona’s involvement in the Negreira case until the end.

From there to the overt opposition to Barcelona playing a league game overseas, Perez and Co. have made it clear that the good times are a matter of the past. Relations, as they stand, are at an all-time low.
