Arsenal may have received a huge boost in the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka in the summer transfer window.
Bayern confirmed earlier this year that Goretzka will leave the club at the end of the season upon the expiry of his contract.
The Gunners reportedly attempted to sign the German midfielder during the January window, but the potential deal did not materialise.

Although Arsenal possess tremendous depth in midfield, Mikel Arteta is still looking to add an experienced holding midfielder.
The 67-cap German international would bring experience and quality to the side, and he is also available on a free transfer.
Goretzka previously informed Arsenal that he had given his word to Bayern to remain at the club for the rest of the season, which caused the move to fall through.
However, Christian Falk has told CFBayern that there is a strong possibility Goretzka could move to Arsenal this summer if the club submits an offer.
London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also keen to sign the vastly experienced midfielder, but Goretzka wants to join a club that can offer Champions League football.
The 31-year-old has made 21 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring two goals, but he has struggled for game time in recent weeks, with Aleksandar Pavlovic being preferred ahead of him.
Serie A giants Inter Milan are also interested in signing Goretzka as they look to revamp their midfield following their failure to reach the Champions League knockout stages, while several other Italian clubs are monitoring his situation.
However, Goretzka reportedly prefers a move to the Premier League this summer, which should come as a significant boost for Arsenal.
“It is TRUE: Inter Milan have a chance of signing Leon Goretzka this summer. Inter had a bad week in the Champions League, and now they’re discussing what they sorely need to add to their squad. An experienced player like Leon Goretzka, who is also very physical, could help this team. In Italy, age isn’t as big a factor as it is in the Bundesliga or England, which primarily likes to invest in young players. So, it’s not only InteSr who are interested, there’s also AC Milan and Juventus. I’m not sure if he’d decide to go to Serie A if he also has an offer from the Premier League. Of course, he first needs an offer from England, and it’s worth bearing in mind that he is 31 years old. However, I heard that Goretzka’s main target is the Premier League but he’s also interested in Italy.”
