Man United would reportedly “consider” selling Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo in the January transfer window.

The pair were two of the Red Devils’ better performers during a difficult campaign last season, but could find themselves leaving Old Trafford – if the right offer comes in.

The club are willing to ship off homegrown players in order to comply with Financial Fair Play rules, although they would do so “reluctantly”, according to The Athletic.

While the report claims that United are not “actively” looking to sell two of their most promising talents, they are realistic about their financial situation.

Any fee received for Garnacho or Mainoo would represent pure profit in their accounts as both players came through the club’s academy. This is why they, and players like Marcus Rashford, are not deemed “untouchable”.

Mainoo, who is contracted until 2027 with the option for an additional year, has been linked with Chelsea. The Blues hold the 19-year-old in “high regard” and have him on a “list of possible transfer targets”.

However, the west London outfit don’t see the midfielder as a “priority” this month, although they will monitor the situation to see how it develops.

Garnacho, who signed a new five-year deal in 2023, was left out of the matchday alongside Rashford for the Manchester derby, but like Mainoo he appears to be a part of Ruben Amorim’s plans going forward.

The Argentine attacker is yet to nail down a preferred position in the manager’s 3-4-3 system, with nine of his 13 appearances under the Portuguese tactician coming off the bench.
