Renato Gaúcho agrees Vasco return on deal through 2026 with new backroom team | OneFootball

According to Globo.com, Vasco have agreed the return of Renato Gaúcho on Tuesday, with contract drafts sent for his signature by the Pedrinho-led board.

Talks moved forward overnight and were wrapped up early afternoon. The deal runs until the end of 2026, aligning with his habit of season-end terms when taking over mid-campaign, as at Fluminense in 2025, when he signed only until December.

His backroom team will include Marcelo Salles and Alexandre Mendes. His first match is set to be against Palmeiras on 12 in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Following elimination from the Campeonato Carioca against Fluminense on Sunday, the 63-year-old warmed to the project, though salaries still needed aligning. In the club’s last proposal there was a 10% to 20% gap between the offer and his request.

Renato previously managed Vasco in 2005 and 2006, then again in 2008. This appointment begins his third spell at São Januário.
