The defender has played the full 90 minutes in five of the Gunners six games so far this season, including their Champions League clash against Lyon last week.

Speaking ahead of their Champions League clash against Benfica this week, Renee Slegers gushed with pride over her player’s international call-up.

“I’m so happy for Katie,” Slegers sad. “She’s a young player but she’s also very mature. She has a growth mindset, she wants to learn every day, she’s very humble, very hard working and she has a lot of qualities that we see and are very valuable to us and I think England have seen that.

“She should be very proud and we are very proud as a club because she’s gone all the way through the academy and now has a first senior call up.”

Reid has already represented England for three different youth teams and is vastly experienced on the international stage despite her young age.

The 19-year-old wasn’t the only young Arsenal star to earn her first call-up to Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses, with Taylor Hinds also selected.

What next for Katie Reid

Both Reid and Hinds are sure to play a part in England’s homecoming tour which kicks off later this month.

It isn’t a given that either will play against Brazil and Australia in October, but both are expected to feature at least off the bench in one of the friendlies.

Up first though for the new Lionesses is a crucial Champions League game against Benfica on Thursday night.

Following her potential European debut, Reid will return home and begin her first senior England camp.
