The last few months have seen one FC Barcelona player truly turn his fortunes around to become a highly important player for Hansi Flick, despite having mostly been a substitute in the initial phase of the German coach’s time at the Blaugrana bench, i.e., Eric Garcia.
In fact, the Spaniard is the player with the highest number of minutes played this season (1211), and, along with Marcus Rashford, is the only player to have played in all the games played this season so far, playing in positions across the backline, as well as in the midfield.
This excellent form has not gone unnoticed, and clubs from England and France, including PSG, have reportedly shown interest in the 24-year-old. However, Garcia has made it clear that he wants to remain at Barcelona, and negotiations for his contract renewal are progressing.
According to SPORT, the Catalan club and Garcia’s agent, Iván de la Peña, are close to finalizing an agreement. Barcelona is eager to complete the renewal in the coming weeks to avoid the player entering 2026 with his current contract, which would allow him to negotiate freely with other clubs. The proposed deal would extend his stay until 2029, with the option to extend until 2030.
Garcia’s commitment to the club has been evident both on and off the pitch. Last weekend, he stepped in at right-back despite recently breaking his nose, delivering a strong performance when Jules Kounde had to step aside.
With his impressive season and growing importance under Flick, Garcia has become an indispensable player, and both he and Barcelona are keen to continue their partnership for years to come.
