Habib Beye has condemned Ethan Nwaneri’s challenge on Glen Kamara after Marseille beat Rennes 3-0 in the Coupe de France on Tuesday night. According to GetFootballNewsFrance.com, the Arsenal loanee was fortunate VAR was not in use.
Nwaneri went in on Kamara in the 22nd minute, catching the Finland midfielder above the ankle with his studs. Kamara was substituted about 10 minutes later.
By the time he departed, Rennes were already 1-0 down thanks to an early strike from Amine Gouiri. Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added second-half goals as Marseille advanced to the quarter-finals.
Speaking before Saturday’s meeting with RC Lens, Beye said Kamara did not require surgery but had suffered a significant sprain. He is expected to be out for a while.
He added that Kamara had been playing well until what he described as an attack by Nwaneri. The Rennes manager’s position has come under scrutiny during a poor run of form.
