Aston Villa are in the mix for Roony Bardghji, and the situation looks straightforward enough. The 20-year-old Barcelona winger wants to play more, Barcelona are open to letting him go, and half the market has sensed an opportunity. Credit to Sport Witness, relaying the latest from Sport, for outlining a race that now includes Villa, Leeds United, Sunderland, Fulham and Brighton.
Barcelona signed Bardghji from FC Copenhagen in July 2025 for around €2m plus bonuses. On paper, that looks like sensible business. In practice, his route to regular football is blocked. Lamine Yamal is ahead of him, and there is no serious indication that will change soon. Bardghji played 842 minutes across 28 matches last season, producing two goals and four assists, respectable numbers for a young player without a defined run in the side, but not enough to alter the hierarchy.

According to the report, Bardghji and his representatives spoke with Barcelona in June, and his agent has since been working the market. The player is open to either a loan or a permanent move with a buyback clause. Barcelona, predictably, prefer the second option. It gives them immediate cash and keeps a degree of control. Clubs like doing that when they still believe a player may explode later.
Villa’s interest matters because they are not window shopping here. They need depth, flexibility and players who can grow in value. Bardghji fits that model. He is a right winger by trade, technical, young and already accustomed to the demands of a major club environment. He would not arrive as a guaranteed starter, but that is not the point. Recruitment at this level is about squad building, not fantasy football.
Sport state that five Premier League sides have made approaches. Villa are listed alongside Leeds, Sunderland and Brighton, with Fulham also in the broader picture. Elsewhere, Juventus, Marseille, Ajax, FC Porto and clubs in Spain are interested. That tells you two things. First, the player is clearly available. Second, this is the kind of deal that can move quickly once one club presents the right structure.
The key line from the Spanish report is “final summit for Bardghji”. That suggests this is moving towards resolution. The discussion is expected to shape both his destination and the formula of the transfer. For Villa, the question is simple. Do they see Bardghji as a useful development piece, or are they prepared to let another club take the gamble first?
From an Aston Villa perspective, this feels like the sort of move that makes sense if the cost is controlled and the pathway is clear. Bardghji is talented, no doubt, but Villa cannot afford to collect young attackers without a proper plan for them. If he comes in, there has to be a role, minutes and a reason beyond simply winning a transfer race.
The upside is obvious. Barcelona do not sign players on a whim, and if they still want a buyback clause, that tells you they see genuine long-term value. Villa have done well when identifying players before their price goes through the roof, and this could fit that category. A technically sharp, left-footed right winger with top-level exposure at 20 is worth serious consideration.
The concern is also obvious. If too many clubs are circling, fees and demands can become inflated quickly. Villa should not get dragged into paying over the odds for a player who is still more promise than certainty. There is also the usual issue with buyback clauses, they can leave the buying club doing the development work for someone else.
Still, if the structure is right, this looks like a smart market opportunity. Villa need depth, quality and resale value. Bardghji could offer all three. The trick is making sure he joins because he fits the project, not because his name is suddenly fashionable this week.
