Carlos Augusto could reportedly take the first-choice starting role on the left flank at Inter Milan under Cristian Chivu.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Brazilian international could move ahead of Federico Dimarco in the pecking order.

Coach Cristian Chivu is looking to implement a 3-4-2-1 formation at Inter Milan. He’ll keep the back three that the Nerazzurri have used under Simone Inzaghi and Antonio Conte – But could ditch the use of two strikers.

In this system, Chivu will find slightly different roles for a number of familiar faces.

For example, Tuttosport report, Hakan Calhanoglu could play as more of an attacking midfielder.

Meanwhile, Tuttosport note, the wingback positions will look a bit different under Chivu than under Inzaghi.

In Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 shape, Federico Dimarco had really shone. It was the right system to get the best out of the Italian international’s attacking quality and ability in position.

On the other hand, in a 3-4-2-1 formation, there would be less license for Dimarco to roam the pitch in the final third.

Therefore, it could be Carlos Augusto who comes out the real winner, reports Tuttosport.

The Brazilian international may well be more suited to play a more out-and-out wide role on the left flank than Dimarco.
