Leeds United could be ready to make a statement in January with a move for Troy Parrott, following his stunning international display for the Republic of Ireland. As reported by Football Fancast, the 23-year-old AZ Alkmaar striker is now firmly on the radar of both Leeds and 49ers Enterprises.
Parrott’s reputation has been rebuilt in remarkable fashion. Once a promising Tottenham prospect who struggled to make an impact, the Dublin-born forward has rediscovered his form in the Netherlands. His current tally of 33 goals in 61 appearances for AZ Alkmaar underlines a player finding both consistency and confidence.
That confidence reached new heights on Sunday, as Parrott scored a hat-trick in Ireland’s thrilling 3-2 win over Hungary, securing a World Cup playoff place. His last-minute winner sparked jubilant scenes among the travelling supporters and even earned praise from former Manchester United captain Roy Keane.
“Fantastic, amazing,” Keane said. “When you think the way they started the campaign, a draw and a defeat. To win today on the back of the Portugal result, fantastic. Parrott got a hat-trick. There was always talk about Parrott over the last few years, but he has stepped up in the last few days. Great achievement.”

Leeds’ return to the Premier League under Daniel Farke has been a mixed affair. They’ve been competitive in most matches, but as transfer insider Dean Jones told TEAMtalk, “It sounds to me like the club know they have let him down a bit by leaving him short of goal power. Leeds have been competitive in most games but it has been clear they lack a cutting edge.”
That shortage of goals has been a recurring issue for Leeds. Patrick Bamford has struggled for form, and while Georginio Rutter offers promise, the squad still feels one elite finisher short of safety. Parrott’s form and profile fit the bill: young, hungry, and capable of linking up play in Farke’s structured attacking system.
With the 49ers Enterprises keen to strengthen in January, Parrott’s timing could not be better. His international exploits have made him one of Europe’s most in-form young forwards, and his experience in Eredivisie football suggests a maturity that might translate well to England’s top tier.
Leeds reportedly tried to sign him in the summer, but AZ were unwilling to part with their leading scorer. Now, with Parrott’s stock soaring and Ireland eyeing a World Cup berth, his market value has likely risen. Still, the player’s ambition to test himself again in the Premier League could play in Leeds’ favour.
If Leeds are serious about consolidating their position this season, Parrott represents more than a short-term gamble. He could be a signing for both survival and the future.
As a Leeds United fan, this rumour feels both exciting and logical. Daniel Farke’s side have shown good organisation and effort since returning to the Premier League, but there’s no denying that goals have been hard to come by. The idea of adding a forward with Parrott’s sharpness and recent momentum feels like the missing piece.
Fans will remember how quickly the club moved for players like Raphinha and Jack Harrison in the past, and they’ll hope the new ownership group act with similar decisiveness. Parrott’s recent hat-trick for Ireland shows his composure under pressure, and that winning mentality is exactly what Leeds have lacked in key moments this season.
Supporters might be cautious, knowing that Eredivisie form doesn’t always translate directly to the Premier League, but Parrott’s physicality and pressing ability make him a natural fit for Farke’s style. With Elland Road already buzzing from the club’s Premier League return, a signing like this could lift the mood even further.
If Leeds pull it off, it could mark a pivotal point in their campaign and a clear signal of intent from the 49ers ownership group.
