Liverpool are advancing their interest in Ibrahim Mbaye, with GFFN reporting that the club are pushing to sign the 18-year-old Paris Saint-Germain attacker this summer. The Merseyside club are actively assessing additions on the right flank and Mbaye has surfaced as a serious option as planning continues for the new season.
Initial discussions have already taken place between Liverpool and the player’s representatives. Mbaye, a Senegal international forward, is understood to be open to the move and has indicated a willingness to join Liverpool during this transfer window. That encouragement gives the club a platform to explore the conditions of a deal in greater detail.
The next stage is expected to involve contact with PSG, who remain in control of the player’s future. Mbaye is under contract until 2028, so Liverpool would need to negotiate a transfer fee with the Ligue 1 champions if they decide to formalise their pursuit. Interest from elsewhere is present too, which means Liverpool may want clarity quickly if they intend to move decisively.
From a squad-building perspective, the logic is easy to see. Liverpool are in the market for fresh attacking options following Mohamed Salah’s summer exit, and the right wing is a position that requires attention. Mbaye fits the profile of a young, high-upside talent who could be developed further while also adding pace, directness and depth to the forward line.
What stands out in this situation is the age profile. At 18, Mbaye would represent a strategic signing as much as an immediate one. Liverpool’s recruitment has often focused on players with scope to grow, and this appears to follow a similar pattern, particularly if the club believe his ceiling is high enough to justify strong competition for his signature.
There is still work to do before any agreement can be reached, especially with PSG yet to be engaged in full negotiations. However, Liverpool’s interest is concrete, the player appears receptive, and the process looks set to develop in the days ahead.
From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this is exactly the kind of report that sparks excitement. Ibrahim Mbaye might not yet be a household name to every fan, but those are often the deals that become the most intriguing. When Liverpool move early on a top young attacker, it usually means the recruitment team see something special.
The right wing has been an obvious area to address after Salah’s departure, so the club targeting a player with pace, hunger and long-term upside makes complete sense. Supporters will naturally want proven quality as well, but there is real appeal in bringing in a teenager who can grow into a major role at Anfield. If he already wants the move, that only adds to the feeling that this could be one to watch closely.
There is always risk when signing a player so young from a club like PSG, especially with other sides circling and a long contract in place. Even so, Liverpool should not shy away if they truly believe Mbaye can develop into a top-level forward. The profile sounds modern, explosive and adaptable, which is exactly what the attack needs.
For fans, this would feel like a bold and forward-thinking piece of business. It may not carry the instant glamour of an established superstar, but it could be the start of something very exciting.
