Vinicius Jr’s standing at Real Madrid, once regarded as immovable, now appears to be shifting. The Mirror’s report outlines a relationship between the Brazilian and Xabi Alonso that feels increasingly fragile, a dynamic that injects a sense of volatility into a club defined by scrutiny and expectation.
The winger has long been considered a central pillar of Real Madrid’s identity. He electrified European nights, shaped decisive moments and provided that aura Madrid lean on during tight 2-1 or 3-2 victories. Yet the latest indications, particularly around his unwillingness to extend his contract, present a player who may be rethinking his future.

According to The Athletic, he “will not sign an extended contract with the club at this moment in time” because of his relationship with Alonso. Given a deal that expires in 2027, every month of tension only strengthens the sense of jeopardy for Madrid.
The breaking point, or at least the visible rupture, came in the Clasico. Substituted and visibly emotional, Vinicius was heard saying, “Always me, I’m leaving the team, it’s better if I leave, I’m leaving.”
Public apologies followed, but the original spark has not completely settled. Alonso addressed the episode with measured calm, stating, “Has Vinicius apologised to me? We had a meeting with everyone on Wednesday, and Vinicius was impeccable. He spoke honestly and was very good. For me, that settles the matter.”

He added, “It was a very valuable, very positive statement. He demonstrated his honesty, he spoke from the heart. What he said was the most important thing, and I was very satisfied.”
Yet the winger reportedly held discussions with club president Florentino Perez shortly after the incident, a meeting that suggests more was said privately than was expressed publicly. In Madrid, that kind of conversation rarely signals nothing.
This situation inevitably resonates across the Premier League. Liverpool have been linked with him in past cycles, while Manchester United have also explored the idea of testing Madrid’s resolve. Clubs with ambitions of top four finishes or Champions League reclamations do not regularly get the chance to consider a player who has scored 111 goals in 340 appearances.
His form this season, already producing five goals, reiterates that even amid tension, he delivers. Should Madrid fail to smooth the relationship or convince him that Alonso represents a long term pathway, interest will intensify. As the Mirror suggest, the sense that a transfer could materialise is not theoretical, it is creeping into the realm of possibility.
Real Madrid’s schedule, which includes Olympiacos and Girona, will only magnify scrutiny. Every Vinicius performance, reaction and public gesture becomes a storyline. That is the nature of life at the Bernabeu, where the margins between harmony and discord are tiny, and where a player of this magnitude will inevitably command attention.
For Liverpool, stories like this always feel like the same old cycle. A world class player becomes unsettled, gets linked with Anfield and the fanbase is expected to believe that the club could suddenly pivot into century defining transfer territory. Liverpool admire players like Vinicius, everyone admires players like Vinicius, but admiration and affordability are very different things. Supporters might look at the current structure under the new regime and think, great player, wrong profile, unrealistic numbers. It feels more like a headline that stirs traffic than a project that fits the squad plan.
Manchester United fans might view it through another lens. They have seen these sagas before, usually ending with the player signing a bumper new Madrid deal after a theatrical few weeks of speculation. United have been used in countless leverage situations over the past decade. Many will question whether this is another example of a name being attached to the club simply to strengthen the player’s hand in negotiations. Until there is clear evidence Madrid are genuinely open to selling, scepticism will persist. United supporters have learned to be cautious, particularly when the initial story does not originate from Old Trafford insiders.
