Liverpool are carefully assessing their attacking options ahead of a pivotal summer transfer window, with Dutch sensation Xavi Simons now firmly in their sights. The 22-year-old has enjoyed another impressive campaign in the Bundesliga, where his creativity and eye for goal have reignited transfer interest from Europe’s elite.
Simons, currently on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain, was signed permanently by the German club in January. However, interest has rapidly intensified — and not just from Anfield. With his versatility and attacking flair, Simons is attracting suitors from both the Premier League and beyond, including Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, RB Leipzig have made their stance clear: Simons won’t leave unless his €80 million (£68 million) release clause is met. That fee, while substantial, reflects both the player’s current form and future potential.

Plettenberg stated: “RB Leipzig are still set to demand around €80m for a transfer of Xavi this summer. FC Bayern (should Florian Wirtz move elsewhere), Liverpool, Manchester United and several others, have him on their radar and are monitoring his situation. As of now, no official offer has been submitted to RB.”
Given the Premier League’s growing financial power, that valuation is unlikely to deter a club like Liverpool, who are entering a summer of transition under new head coach Arne Slot. Simons’ ability to slot into multiple attacking roles makes him a logical candidate for the Reds’ evolving system.
As Liverpool prepare for life beyond Jurgen Klopp, Arne Slot is expected to bring a tactical refresh to Anfield. The potential departure of Luis Díaz or Darwin Núñez could accelerate the need for a creative forward who combines flair with end product — precisely what Simons offers.
His experience across top European leagues, including Ligue 1, Eredivisie and Bundesliga, gives him a maturity beyond his years. Whether operating behind the striker or cutting in from wide positions, Simons’ intelligence and decision-making could thrive in the high-intensity environment Liverpool are known for.
After making the Bundesliga look routine with Leipzig, Simons appears ready for a greater challenge. With 22 goal contributions this season, the Dutchman’s numbers speak for themselves. Now, as he nears a decision on his future, a move to the Premier League feels not only possible but probable.
Liverpool will not be alone in the race — but their long-standing admiration, coupled with a defined tactical need, could give them the edge. And at £68 million, this might be the summer where FSG greenlight a statement signing to usher in a new era.
