There has reportedly been a major update on the Marc Guehi transfer saga as Liverpool no longer look like the favourites to sign the Crystal Palace centre-back.
The England international came close to joining Liverpool in the summer, but that move collapsing late on now seems to have hurt the Reds in both the short and long term.
According to the Athletic, it is now by no means the case that Guehi’s move to Liverpool is still a foregone conclusion, with Manchester City, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich also in the race for his signature.
A key detail that has emerged in this saga is also Guehi’s desire to play in the Champions League and compete to win the trophy.
Given how badly Liverpool are playing at the moment, it seems very possible that they won’t even be competing in Europe’s top club competition next season.

LFC are on an awful run of nine defeats from their last twelve games in all competitions, and that’s seen them drop to 12th in the Premier League table.
Even if Liverpool bounce back and manage to scrape into the top four, it’s still highly unlikely that they’d be considered one of the favourites to win the Champions League next season.
The Guehi news is certainly worrying, while Liverpool are also yet to hear about a possible new contract for star centre-back Ibrahima Konate.
The Athletic report that Real Madrid won’t be signing Konate, but that still doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be staying at Anfield.
Like Guehi, Konate is also heading towards being a free agent at the end of this season, so he’ll surely have plenty of suitors.
Liverpool could really have done with Guehi to replace Konate, but it now looks like they might have missed their best chance.
