Real Madrid have come up with an ingenious plan to acquire Alvaro Carreras from Benfica without paying the hefty €60 million release clause that the Portuguese club has set for the young left-back.

According to AS, instead of negotiating directly with Benfica, Madrid intend to work with Manchester United, who have an €18 million buy-back clause on Carreras after the player moved to Benfica from the Red Devils for just €6 million.

The strategy is as follows: Real Madrid will persuade Manchester United to activate the €18 million buy-back clause, effectively bringing Carreras back to Old Trafford.

Once the Spanish full-back is back in the Premier League, Real Madrid will then pay between €30 million and €35 million to secure his services, a price far more reasonable than Benfica’s steep asking price of €60 million.

This clever tactic allows Madrid to bypass Benfica’s notoriously difficult negotiation process, which has seen other clubs struggle to secure transfers from the Lisbon-based club at a fair price.

Carreras is on top of Madrid’s list

Carreras, who has impressed with his performances at Benfica, has become a key target for Madrid as they seek to strengthen their left-back position.
