Wesley Franca has reportedly handed Roma a major injury blow ahead of Sunday’s heavyweight clash against Inter Milan at San Siro.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInter1908, the Brazilian wingback suffered a thigh injury during the international break.
Trailing fourth-placed Como by three points, Roma cannot afford further slip-ups if they’re to secure a top-four finish in Serie A.
Indeed, Gian Piero Gasperini is keen to lead the Giallorossi to their first top-four finish since the 2017/18 season.
However, it also means that Roma must defy the odds at San Siro next weekend amid a full-blown injury crisis.
Despite Matias Soule’s recovery, Roma will take the field without numerous first-team stars.
Indeed, Paulo Dybala and Artem Dovbyk headline a long list of absentees, which also features Evan Ferguson and Manu Kone.
Furthermore, Gasperini has now lost his starting wingback to injury.
Wesley was on the receiving end of Dayot Upamecano’s reckless tackle in Brazil’s 2-1 friendly loss to France last Thursday.
Therefore, he has returned to the Stadio Olimpico sooner than expected. However, he will not be at Gasperini’s disposal on Sunday.
With Wesley ruled out, it will be either Kostas Tsimikas or Angelino to fill the void on the left side.
