Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have rarely agreed on much, but both clubs now appear locked in on a shared vision – the electric Bryan Mbeumo. According to The Mirror, United remain favourites to sign the Brentford star, yet incoming Spurs boss Thomas Frank is plotting an emotional reunion with the player he transformed into one of the league’s most lethal forwards.
With £60 million the rumoured price tag, Mbeumo is not just a statement of intent, he’s a benchmark. Frank reportedly “wants them to rival Manchester United” and has already urged Spurs to act quickly. The pursuit, however, is about more than just goals and assists – it’s about what those numbers represent: reliability, maturity, and evolution.
Last season, only Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland bettered Mbeumo’s 20 Premier League goals. Add seven assists and his relentless pressing to the mix, and the 25-year-old becomes a compelling prospect for top-tier clubs.
“What he has to offer” is no longer in question. As Frank put it: “It is clear that if he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount… There is a reason why he costs x number of million pounds, and we do not have x number of million pounds to buy for.”
For Brentford, Mbeumo has been more than just a forward. He cushioned the blow of Ivan Toney’s departure and ensured the Bees stayed in the top half of the table. He has matured into a dependable attacking threat, showing all the signs of a player ready for the Champions League stage.
United have reportedly submitted two bids and are offering around £150,000-a-week, rising to £200,000 with bonuses. Spurs’ offer trails slightly at £130,000-a-week, but Frank and Champions League football might weigh heavier than an extra £20k.
While Mbeumo is “open to a move” despite United’s underwhelming season under Ruben Amorim, his decision will likely hinge on trust – both in the manager and the project. Tottenham’s vision, aligned with Frank’s tactical system and man-management, may offer the more seamless transition.
Still, United’s determination remains strong. Their discussions with Mbeumo’s representatives have been “extensive” and ongoing for months.
Frank is the architect of Mbeumo’s rise and his words carry weight. “How many wingers score 20 goals for a mid-table club? And then with seven assists plus his work ethic. And his character. All these things mean that he has a lot, so he is a good player.”

If Frank is to be Spurs’ new man at the helm, this potential signing would speak louder than any press conference. For Daniel Levy, bringing in a player already embedded in the incoming manager’s philosophy could be the smartest play of the summer.
As a Spurs fan, this feels like the first big fork in the road of our post-Postecoglou rebuild. If Thomas Frank is to be our new manager, then bringing in Mbeumo isn’t just about adding firepower – it’s about giving the new man a trusted lieutenant to build around.
It’s rare to find a winger who combines raw numbers with tactical discipline, and Mbeumo has both in abundance. He’s proven he can handle the rigours of the Premier League and more importantly, he’s flourished under Frank’s system. That chemistry shouldn’t be underestimated.
Yes, United are offering more money, but what we can offer is clarity. Champions League football, an evolving project, and a manager who knows how to get the best out of him. If Mbeumo has any doubts about being just another piece at Old Trafford, surely the more tailored role at Spurs has to appeal.
Let’s hope Daniel Levy sees this for what it is: a rare opportunity to make a signing that hits both sporting and symbolic targets. Mbeumo in lilywhite could be exactly the kind of spark we need to push on.
