Tottenham Eye Joaquín Oso as Sevilla Set Contract Deadline Amid Growing Premier League Interest

Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs tracking Sevilla left-back Joaquín Oso, with the Spanish side yet to make their final call on whether to push through a renewal or open the door to a summer sale. Credit to Sport Witness, who relay the latest reporting from Spain, this is a situation that appears to be moving towards a decision point.

Oso, 23, has emerged as a live market opportunity because he has “less than a year left on his contract” and Sevilla are struggling to find an agreement with his camp. The current issue is clear, the club are “keen on extending it”, but “are finding his agent’s demand too high, and this has put the renewal on hold”.

Joaquín Oso attracting Premier League attention

Tottenham are now named alongside Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest in the race. The report states that “Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are in the picture for Joaquín Oso and are awaiting Sevilla’s final decision.” Newcastle are described as the club to have already made contact, while it remains “unclear whether Spurs and Nottingham Forest have made approaches”.

There is broader competition too. Villarreal, Real Betis, Real Sociedad and Fiorentina are also credited with interest, after Oso’s appearances last season raised his profile. He played 24 first-team matches in the previous campaign and, despite not being a long-established starter, has evidently done enough to catch attention in multiple markets.

Sevilla set transfer deadline over contract talks

The strongest development centres on Sevilla’s stance. According to the report, the club “have issued an ultimatum to Joaquín Oso’s representatives” and “have given them a deadline to close the renewal negotiations immediately.” If no agreement is reached, Sevilla will “make him available in the market with a €10m starting price”. That equates to roughly £8.6m, a figure well within reach for Premier League sides monitoring the position.

From Tottenham’s perspective, this has the feel of a classic watch-and-wait situation. There is no indication yet that they are leading the race, and “Oso’s suitors have to wait until Sevilla’s deadline before making further advances.” That suggests the next move belongs to Sevilla and the player’s camp.

Our View

For Tottenham supporters, this report is intriguing because it points towards a younger, more opportunistic type of recruitment. Joaquín Oso is not arriving with a huge profile, but that can often be where smart business gets done. If Sevilla really do put him on the market at around £8.6m, Spurs would be looking at a relatively low-risk move for a 23-year-old left-back with room to develop.

The key question is how serious Tottenham are. Being “in the picture” can mean genuine interest, or it can simply mean a club has done background checks and is waiting to see if the price and circumstances become favourable. That said, the contract position makes this one worth watching closely. A player with “less than a year left on his contract” naturally creates leverage for buyers.

From a squad-building point of view, Spurs need competition and freshness in the full-back areas. If Oso has shown enough in La Liga to attract Sevilla’s desire for a new deal and interest from several clubs, there is probably something there. Supporters will want more than a market opportunity, they will want a player capable of fitting the intensity and tactical demands of Tottenham’s system. For now, this feels like one to monitor rather than one to expect, but it is exactly the type of developing situation that can accelerate quickly once a selling club sets a price.
