Darwin Nunez’s Saudi adventure appears to be heading towards an abrupt conclusion, with TEAMtalk reporting that several Premier League clubs are tracking his situation closely. Less than a year after leaving Liverpool for Al Hilal in a deal worth around £46 million, the Uruguayan forward finds himself at a crossroads.
Nunez has managed 24 appearances and nine goals in Riyadh, respectable figures in isolation, yet circumstances have shifted dramatically. In February, Al Hilal secured the signing of Karim Benzema from Al Ittihad, and the consequences were immediate. Due to the Pro League’s strict foreign player quota, Nunez was dropped from the league and cup squad. He cannot feature again domestically this season, a scenario that places his World Cup ambitions in jeopardy.
TEAMtalk state that the player has been left blindsided by developments and is now weighing his options.
The most intriguing detail concerns renewed English interest. As TEAMtalk report, “Intermediaries have spoken to a number of clubs in England, and we can confirm that some have been alerted to the prospect, should Nunez become available – these include Tottenham and Newcastle, amongst others.”
That line will quicken pulses in north London and on Tyneside. Tottenham are searching for attacking thrust, Newcastle for depth and dynamism. Nunez, for all the debate that accompanied his Liverpool spell, brings pace, directness and a relentless work ethic.
European interest extends beyond England. Atletico Madrid and Juventus are described as long term admirers. The attraction is clear, Nunez offers physical presence allied with movement that unsettles defences.

A return to Europe would demand compromise. Nunez reportedly earns £400,000 per week in Saudi Arabia. To facilitate a move, he would need to relinquish a substantial portion of that salary.
TEAMtalk suggest he may be prepared to do precisely that. The prospect of another season watching from the sidelines is untenable for a 26 year old forward approaching peak years. International football remains a powerful motivator, and regular competition is non negotiable.
If this episode concludes after just one year, it will serve as a reminder that financial incentives alone do not guarantee fulfilment. Elite players crave rhythm, challenge and relevance.
Elsewhere in the TEAMtalk report, Newcastle’s stance on Anthony Gordon is described as firm amid interest from Liverpool, Manchester United and other heavy spenders. At Anfield, speculation surrounding Palmeiras midfielder Allan has been cooled. Claims of a €35 million agreement were labelled premature, with Brazilian sources indicating Palmeiras are content to wait, particularly with the World Cup looming and valuation potentially rising.
Tottenham’s own direction also faces scrutiny. Reports of internal warnings about their current trajectory underline the importance of astute recruitment this summer. Nunez, should he become attainable, would represent a statement of intent.
For now, his future remains fluid. Yet the ingredients are present for a compelling summer narrative, Premier League ambition, European suitors and a striker seeking renewed purpose.
For Tottenham supporters, this is an opportunity that warrants serious consideration. Darwin Nunez divided opinion at Liverpool, yet he has attributes Spurs currently lack. His pace would stretch defences, his movement would create space for others, and his hunger to prove himself again in Europe could ignite his game.
There is risk attached, particularly regarding wages and confidence after a disrupted year in Saudi Arabia. However, a player willing to sacrifice £400,000 per week to return to meaningful competition signals commitment.
Spurs need forwards who thrive on chaos and energy. Nunez offers both. If the structure around him is coherent and creative, his output could flourish. Recruitment should never be driven by reputation alone, but in this case the blend of age, experience and motivation makes the prospect intriguing.
