The biggest obstacle remains Newcastle’s valuation. An opening Spurs offer, understood to be around £80 million, has already been rejected, with the Magpies seeking a fee in excess of £100 million. Persuading elite players to choose Spurs has not always been straightforward, making this development particularly encouraging.
