Alessandro Bastoni is likely to start in the middle of the Inter Milan back three against Como.
This according to Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. They report that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will opt for the Italian international as an emergency replacement for Stefan de Vrij.
Inter coach Inzaghi received some very unwelcome news in training today.
32-year-old Dutch international defender Stefan de Vrij pulled out of today’s session early. This was due to a fitness issue.
Therefore, it is looking very unlikely that de Vrij will be available against Como tomorrow.
The Dutchman has started in most of Inter’s matches in December. Inzaghi has played a back three of he, Alessandro Bastoni, and Yann Bisseck with Benjamin Pavard and Francesco Acerbi injured.
However, Inzaghi won’t be able to go with that trio against Como tomorrow.
With de Vrij out, Inzaghi is dealing with a full-blown defensive injury crisis.
Having both the Dutchman and Acerbi on the sidelines means that the Nerazzurri coach does not have either of the natural options at the centre of the back three at his disposal.
That does not mean that there are no players who can play there.
Yann Bisseck started in the centre of the back three against Udinese in the Coppa Italia. Matteo Darmian started on the right.
But according to Sky, it will not likely be the German reprising that role. Rather, he will play on the right of the back three.
Instead, the broadcaster anticipate, Alessandro Bastoni will shift to the centre.
Then, Carlos Augusto will start on the left of Inter’s back three.
