Phil Foden is absent from Manchester City’s matchday squad that takes on Nottingham Forest in the Premier League tonight, it has been confirmed.
Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City squad will be hoping to secure their first victory in any competition since October 26, when the club dismissed of Southampton at the Etihad Stadium via a 1-0 scoreline thanks to a single Erling Haaland strike.
Since then, the Premier League champions have gone on a run of seven matches across competitions without a win as well as four successive contests in Premier League action being on the receiving end of a defeat.
That record has seen Manchester City drop down into the play-off places of the UEFA Champions League table, while they now lie 11 points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool after the 2-0 defeat at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
With Nuno Espirito Santo’s high-flying and impressive Nottingham Forest being the next challenge for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has seen a further issue struck upon his already-depleted first-team squad.
As confirmed via Manchester City’s official starting line-up from the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, Phil Foden will play no part in the contest with Nottingham Forest having been excluded from the matchday squad.
It has been detailed by journalist Sam C on X that the reason for Foden’s absence from Manchester City duties this evening is due to the England international ‘feeling unwell’ overnight.
Further details courtesy of The Times’ Paul Hirst confirmed that Foden is suffering from bronchitis, and as a result was excluded from action by Manchester City in the lead up to the fixture.
Pep Guardiola is expected to provide further updates and developments on Phil Foden’s health when he addresses the media during his pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester City’s next game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.
