This summer, Matteo Cancellieri has been one of the brightest sparks at Lazio, but his future at the club remains undecided, especially amid the growing interest in his services.
The 23-year-old is a youth product of Roma who went on to enjoy a rise to prominence during his time at Hellas Verona. The Italian then earned a move to Lazio in the summer of 2022, but couldn’t secure a prominent role in Maurizio Sarri’s rotation. Therefore, he spent the last two campaigns on loan at Empoli and Parma, before rejoining the Aquile this summer.
At the start of the summer, many believed that Cancellieri’s return to Formello was only temporary before departing towards another venture. Nevertheless, the young winger has arguably been one of the best players for Lazio in the pre-season friendlies thus far. Some might consider him the club’s standout performer of the summer.
Therefore, Il Messaggero confirms that Cancellieri could end up lingering at Lazio after all, as Sarri could be tempted to keep him as an option on the right wing, especially with Gustav Isaksen still struggling with Infectious mononucleosis, and Tijjani Noslin failing to impress.

As the source explains, the Biancocelesti would ideally cash in on Noslin and keep Cancellieri. However, the Dutchman hasn’t attracted any serious suitors just yet, and the club cannot afford to sell him on the cheap after spending €15 million to buy him from Verona last summer.
On the other hand, Cancellieri has a market, as evidenced by Olympiacos’ interest in his services in recent weeks. Moreover, the newspaper reveals that Cagliari have enquired about his services, while the newly-promoted Pisa are also following the player with interest.
Hence, Lazio would be able to register important capital gains by selling the Roman winger, but it remains to be seen if Sarri would be willing to sacrifice one of his most in-form players.
