Royal Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzan has responded to the latest comments made by Florentino Perez following the growing controversy surrounding refereeing in Spanish football.

The federation chief spoke during a public event, in which he was asked about the statements made by the Real Madrid president during Tuesday’s press conference, particularly regarding refereeing and the current climate in Spanish football.

Responding to the situation, the RFEF president attempted to calm tensions and stressed that the federation does not want to become involved in public disputes.

“The RFEF will not get involved in controversies and we want Spanish clubs to be at the top. We believe in the work of our referees.

“What is best for Madrid will be good for Spanish football. But we also want to strengthen the work of our refereeing team; there is room for improvement, but we believe their work is very good.

“We will not get involved in any kind of controversy.”

Possible legal action still under assessment

Louzan was also questioned about whether the Technical Committee of Referees could consider taking action following the latest accusations and public comments.

However, the federation president once again insisted that the focus remains on avoiding further escalation.

“It is a situation we will assess together with the legal department, but we do not want any controversy.”

The response suggests that the federation has not entirely ruled out reviewing the situation, although there is currently no indication that formal action will be taken.

Addresses Negreira case criticism

The RFEF president was asked about criticism directed towards Fran Soto and ongoing discussions surrounding the Negreira case.

Louzan defended the referee while distancing the current federation leadership from the events linked to the investigation.

“Fran Soto, with the best of intentions, said that it is a case before the courts and we expect a clear verdict, but it is a case that does not belong to our era.

“Neither mine nor Fran Soto’s. Justice puts everyone in their place,” he concluded.
