Liverpool could soon strike their biggest transfer yet as Richard Hughes takes a step towards a truly mammoth signing. Could it really happen?

Liverpool had a remarkable summer transfer window, twice breaking their transfer record to bring in genuine superstar players. It was always the plan to do so - but we never thought it would actually happen.

But the Reds signed their first £100m player in Florian Wirtz back in May. An incredible signing and one that everyone thought was impossible.

Everyone except Richard Hughes and co., of course. What's truly crazy, though, is that Liverpool went and signed an even more expensive player in Alexander Isak.

Isak is now the most expensive player in the history of British football. He's still getting up to speed but he's unquestionably one of the most exciting signings we've ever seen.

However, now there are reports that Liverpool could go even bigger. Surely not?

Liverpool keep tabs on Vinicus Jr

Vinicius Jr is yet to renew his contract with Real Madrid and that's creating a problem for the club. His deal is set to expire in 2027 and The Boot Room claims the Brazilian could be sold next summer if he still hasn't signed.

Real Madrid can't afford to let him go for nothing - not when Vinicius is one of the most valuable players in football. It creates a very strange situation for Los Blancos, who are usually at the other end of this.

But TBR suggests that Vinicius may decide to move to the Premier League. That's alerted Liverpool and Arsenal, who have taken the first steps towards a transfer in asking for more information on the situation.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have done the same.

Now, if this is true, we imagine this is Liverpool simply making sure they don't make a mistake. They'd hate to learn that the impossibly small chance of Vinicius leaving Real Madrid and wanting Liverpool was there but they hadn't got involved.

Because we do think it's impossibly small. Vinicius might leave Real Madrid but if he does, it'll be over the enormous amount of money he's after.

Money that doesn't actually reflect how good he is, in all honesty. Liverpool absolutely hate to step away from their wage structure, making that a match made in hell.

So no, we don't think Liverpool will sign Vinicius. Not unless he's desperate to move to Merseyside. This is just the Reds making preparations just in case - though they are the all-important first steps.
