Richard Hughes has a lot of making up to do this summer.

Even though Liverpool's sporting director spent an astonishing amount of money on new players last summer, hardly any of those moves worked out.

This has led to the Reds massively under-performing and many members of their first-team squad being left rather red-faced.

So, with all of this in mind, it's unsurprising to find out that many new players are being linked with a Liverpool switch every day.

And, now that we're edging closer to the opening of the summer transfer window, Hughes needs to step up his game and prove to fans that he's still the man for the job.

Liverpool like Adam Wharton 'a lot' and they could sign him this summer

One of the main areas of Liverpool's team that needs a revamp is their midfield.

Alexis Mac Allister has forgotten how to run, Ryan Gravenberch is a fraction of his former self and Curtis Jones could be on his way out of Anfield this summer.

In reality, Liverpool could do with bringing in new players to replace each of them but, since so many other areas of their team also need replacing, they'll probably only be able to sign one or two replacements.

And now, as per a fresh update from journalist Matte Moretto via Radio MARCA, Liverpool's main target may have just been shared.

"Adam Wharton to Liverpool...they tell me yes," he said.

"Liverpool wants him, a lot."

Adam Wharton is an 'excellent' footballer

Adam Wharton is one of Crystal Palace's best players.

Even though the Englishman was left out of Thomas Tuchel's World Cup 2026 squad he was still one of the Premier League's best defensive-midfielders.

Indeed, he may not be quite at the same level as someone such as Declan Rice but, compared to someone such as Elliott Anderson, there's little-to-no difference between the two.

And, the fact that Manchester City have just had an over £120 million bid rejected from Nottingham Forest, it proves how good they actually are.

Wharton has been described as an "excellent" player by Pep Guardiola and, since he's a natural number six, his arrival would allow Gravenberch to be pushed further forward into a more natural role.

A fee for the Englishman hasn't been shared just yet but, of all the signings that Liverpool could make this summer, Wharton would arguably be the best of the lot.
