According to Glorioso 1904, Richard Ríos has yet to fully convince the Benfica hierarchy, although the club recognises the difficult circumstances he has faced since arriving.
The board, led by Rui Costa, believes the number 20 still has to justify the 27 million euros paid to Palmeiras, while keeping faith because of a demanding start in Lisbon.
Ríos has barely paused since the Club World Cup in summer 2025 with Palmeiras, then moved straight to Benfica and featured from the first competitive match.
He has faced an abrupt cultural shift and time difference compared with life in São Paulo. A January injury stalled his adaptation just as signs of integration were emerging. He is now trying to return in time to face Real Madrid.
This season for Benfica, Ríos, valued at 22 million euros, has played 32 matches, 16 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, three in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. He has logged 2,622 minutes, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
