The Morocco midfielder enjoyed an outstanding World Cup for his nation, and City look to be out in front in the race to sign the youngster, who Manchester United have also expressed an interest in in the past.

Arsenal, meanwhile, will accelerate their efforts to add to their squad, particularly in attack, following confirmation that they have agreed a deal to sell Leandro Trossard to Besiktas.

With Trossard’s impending departure and the World Cup coming to an end this week, Arsenal will look to secure one of their top summer targets before the new season starts.

Morgan Rogers, Julian Alvarez and Bradley Barcola are all among Arsenal’s targets in attack, while they also remain keen to bring in Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Elsewhere, Manchester United have completed the signing of goalkeeper Karl Darlow following his departure from Leeds, and are close to finalising the deal to bring Youri Tielemans to the club from Aston Villa.

Brighton have signed Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham in a club-record £50m deal, with more Spurs exits likely to follow. Inter Milan are reportedly eyeing Djed Spence, according to Fabrizio Romano,

Roma have offered to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea on an initial loan, with an option to buy for around £30m, Sky Sports report.

Pervis Estupinan is among the left-back targets for Aston Villa should Lucas Digne join PSG, The Daily Mail say.

And Sunderland are set to sign Thomas Meunier on a free transfer following his departure from Lille, according to The Athletic.
