Liverpool are preparing for another busy summer transfer window, and they’ve just received a very positive update.
Despite spending over £400 million in the summer after winning the Premier League title, Liverpool have disappointed repeatedly this season.
The Reds now find themselves in a battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League with seven league games remaining.
One of the biggest tasks of the summer will be replacing the departing Mohamed Salah in Liverpool’s attack, something that Richard Hughes is no doubt already working towards.
There’s been plenty of speculation over who Liverpool could move for, but a recent report has bought one star closer to a Merseyside move.
Another team battling it out for a place in the Champions League next season is Newcastle United, who currently sit seven points behind the Reds.
Missing out on Champions League football could be disastrous for Newcastle, and their chief executive, David Hopkinson, has warned that it could lead to the sale of major players, according to a report in The Times.
Anthony Gordon is one of the players named in the report, and the winger has been heavily linked with a switch to Liverpool in recent years.
The Englishman came through Liverpool’s academy as a child before moving to Everton and has almost moved back to the club on a number of occasions.
Talk of Gordon moving to Liverpool is usually marred by the strained relationship between the clubs caused by Alexander Isak’s transfer saga last summer, but Hopkins hinted that this may not be an impassable issue.
“I wasn’t here for the Isak situation but, to me, Isak was a good sale,” he said.
If Liverpool can propose a fee big enough for Newcastle to once again consider a ‘good sale’ in order to avoid financial difficulty then Gordon could well become a Liverpool player.
