Régis Le Bris is weighing a return to a central role for Enzo Le Fée and says Habib Diarra’s confidence is intact as Sunderland prepare to face Wolves this weekend.
According to Sunderland Echo, Diarra was taken off in the second half of the 5-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest last Friday, a week after a late miss against Aston Villa, having excelled against Spurs in the previous match.
Le Bris wants greater competition in midfield and out wide, which he expects over the next fortnight as Jocelin Ta, Bertrand Traore and Nilson Angulo step up their recoveries. He does not view Diarra as a confidence risk and believes stronger competition could benefit squad management.
The head coach added he is considering shifting Le Fée back inside before the season ends, which could prompt rotation in midfield. He has discussed the idea with both Diarra and Le Fée, and views Le Fée’s best role as a 10 or an 8 once the wingers are back to raise options and standards.
Le Bris said Ta Bi, Traore and Angulo could be involved this weekend, though Manchester United’s visit to the Stadium of Light next weekend might suit the latter two. He indicated Jocelin is likely to be available, with calls on Bertrand and Nilson to be made for this weekend or the week after.
