Celtic are reportedly targeting Ferencvaros boss Robbie Keane as the club’s next manager. The Irishman is believed to be highly rated by the Celtic hierarchy, who are planning to make a number of changes in the footballing department this summer.
According to The Guardian, the former Celtic loanee Keane is believed to be highly regarded by Celtic but there is believed to be interest from Tottenham Hotspur. Celtic are also believed to be considering Wales boss Craig Bellamy, another Celtic loanee, and Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou.
There are concerns about Askou given that he has only had one season in Scottish football but, it is fair to say, that he has impressed in a short time at Fir Park.
Any appointment of Keane would likely draw criticism stemming from the ex-Spurs forward taking over at Maccabi Tel Aviv before his move to Hungary. This would likely start him off on the wrong foot with a number of fans.

Celtic had to bring O’Neill out of retirement to replace Brendan Rodgers, who left the club after a stalemate with the Celtic Board culminated in the Irishman’s resignation. After a successful interim period with Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham, Celtic recruited Wilfried Nancy, who they enthusiastically backed in their announcement of the Frenchman.
Nancy was dismissed after the Glasgow Derby defeat to Rangers at Celtic Park in which the chaotic brand of football was punished by yet another team, resulting in four defeats in six league games. This led to Celtic getting O’Neill and Fozzy back to the club and emptying Nancy, his back room staff and Paul Tisdale with the club promising change.
The names linked are fairly unimaginative and it remains to be seen who is deciding on the next manager given that there is due to be change at executive level at the club.
