Robert Navarro the only Athletic player not to join Carvajal guard of honour | OneFootball

Athletic joined Real Madrid in honouring Carvajal at the Santiago Bernabéu, with one player declining during the captain’s farewell.

According to El Correo, the stadium unveiled a huge pre-match tifo in tribute, and the crowd roared its approval. Carvajal ends more than a decade with Real Madrid, among the club’s most decorated, with six Champions Leagues.

On 70 minutes, David Alaba, who is also leaving, was acknowledged during a stoppage, but there was no guard of honour from either side. After full time he did receive a club tribute.

Álvaro Arbeloa kept the final change for Carvajal, who departed on 84 minutes to a standing ovation, replaced by academy player Serrano. He was on the far touchline and paused to take in the applause as the stadium rose.

Real Madrid players then formed a guard of honour. Athletic stepped in too, except Robert Navarro, who remained near the visitors’ bench, applauding at times but not joining. Carvajal greeted each opponent before embracing his team-mates.
