Rodrigo Caio has confirmed his departure from Flamengo, posting an emotional message after the club dismissed head coach Filipe Luís in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo also dismissed assistant Ivan Palanco and fitness coach Diogo Linhares, and Caio, a permanent staff member, asked to leave alongside his long-time friend.

In an Instagram post, the former centre-back said he was closing another cycle at a club he loves, calling the experience of a different role indescribable. He hailed Filipe Luís as a coach and as a person, saying the football world awaits him and this is only the beginning.

Caio thanked the backroom team for their support, paid tribute to the players and staff, and addressed the supporters with gratitude. He urged them to keep believing and ended by saying he loves Flamengo.

Caio became an assistant in May last year, after Filipe Luís took charge of the first team at the end of 2024. The plan was for him to remain on staff regardless of the head coach, but he chose to depart.

Leonardo Jardim will be Flamengo’s new head coach. He arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday to sign a two-year deal, and there is an expectation the Portuguese will be at Ninho do Urubu on Wednesday to lead the first session.
