Departing Atlético Madrid star Rodrigo De Paul has provided an insight into the reasoning behind his decision to depart for the USA.

Midfielder De Paul, of course, is fresh off bringing a close to his stint on the books at the Metropolitano.

After being labelled surplus to requirements following the arrival of Johnny Cardoso, the Atlético brass made the call to engage in negotiations with MLS outfit Inter Miami over a deal for the Argentine.

And this weekend, such talks officially bore fruit.

As per a statement across Atléti’s website and social media platforms:

‘Rodrigo De Paul is saying goodbye to Atlético de Madrid and will continue his professional career with Inter Miami CF. We wish you the best in this new professional challenge, Rodri!’

De Paul, for his part, has since gone on to sit down for his first interview as an Inter Miami player.

And as alluded to above, during as much, the World Cup winner opened up on his decision to link up with compatriot Lionel Messi in Florida:

“What brings me to Inter Miami is the desire to compete, to win titles, to write pages in the club’s history. It’s a club that’s shaping up to be great, to have a long history, so that many people will follow this incredible team.”
