Leandro Paredes will stay at Roma for at least another year, while Lazio have locked up Christos Mandas long-term. The Giallorossi had been working on such a deal. The Argentine had the chance to return to Boca Juniors in January already, but elected to stay, Corriere dello Sport informs.
Claudio Ranieri has relied heavily on the veteran since returning and indicated him as a pillar for the near future. Their previous coaches, Daniele De Rossi and Ivan Juric, weren’t so fond of him. He’s in his second stint in Roma since he already played with them between 2014 and 2017, moving to Empoli on loan in between campaigns. He has accumulated 129 appearances and 10 goals with the second-oldest capital club.
While Roma will hold onto a seasoned player like Paredes, Lazio reached an agreement with a young deputy who has shown promise in Mandas. He has featured regularly in the Europa League and occasionally challenged Ivan Provedel. He has manned the posts in ten matches, giving up eight goals and keeping three clean sheets.
The Greek goalie is now tied to the Biancocelesti until 2029. He has been with them since 2023 following a €1.3M transfer from OFI Crete. He starred 12 times in his maiden season as the top option missed time with an injury. The 23-year-old had his lone cap with the national team in June 2024.
The former still has plenty left in the tank, and players in that role and with his traits tend to age like fine wine. The Biancocelesti aren’t far off from having a legitimate competition if Provedel has a couple more blunders.
