Evan Ferguson underlined his progress with a brace as Roma won 3-0 at Celtic in the Europa League, yet his Roma boss still anticipates discussions over the striker’s future in January.

The on-loan Albion forward has been the subject of suggestions that the Italian club could seek an early end to his season-long deal in January. According to TheArgus.co.uk, that speculation spread in this country after the Seagulls lost Stefanos Tzimas to a season-ending knee injury.

Roma have also been linked with a move for Joshua Zirkzee at Manchester United.

After the game, Gasperini said Ferguson produced what he has shown at times in training and that patience is needed with a young player. He praised the second goal and urged him to maintain the same intensity and show his qualities.

He added that young players might suddenly find consistency and improvement, and that it would be better if that happens, but made clear discussions will come later in the January window with many important matches before then.

Gasperini wants Ferguson to build on his Glasgow display, hoping to see confirmation in the coming games. He described the journey as tortuous and said Ferguson has not often convinced, though he believes the striker can be effective.
