Serie A giants Roma were reportedly open to offloading French midfielder Manu Kone amid genuine interest from Inter Milan last summer.
Indeed, Cristian Chivu was keen to bolster his midfield options, but after failing to sign Kone, he had to settle for Andy Diouf.
However, Inter are likely to make a new attempt to sign Kone after Diouf fell short of expectations at San Siro.
Kone has played a prominent role in Gasperini’s system this season, making 26 Serie A appearances.
Moreover, the former Borussia Monchengladbach star registered two goals and two assists from deep in the midfield.
Nevertheless, Gasperini was ready to sanction the Frenchman’s exit in the summer, with Roma looking to secure the signature of Jadon Sancho.
Indeed, the Giallorossi had hoped to free up a significant portion of their wage bill to accommodate Sancho’s salary demands.
As such, they were ready to allow Kone – one of the club’s highest earners – to join Inter at the end of last season.
