AS Roma are confident of agreeing a deal to sign Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho.
The Italian side have submitted a loan proposal for Sancho that includes an obligation to make the move permanent for a fee of £20m. Sancho has returned to Manchester United after spending the last 18 months on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea.
The latter’s loan deal also included an obligatory fee, though Chelsea instead opted to pay a £5m get-out clause after failing to agree personal terms with Sancho.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Roma’s approach is considered the ‘best proposal’ that Manchester United have received to date. Juventus enquired about Sancho earlier in the window, while Dortmund were also linked with re-signing the player.
However, Roma are ‘confident’ the terms of their bid will be accepted as Manchester United look to offload Sancho from the wage bill. The 25-year-old has endured a disappointing time at Old Trafford since joining the club for a fee of £72.9m in 2021.
He scored just nine league goals in 58 appearances for the Red Devils and was criticised by former manager Erik ten Hag for his performances in training.
Sancho hit back at the Dutchman in a publicised fallout, claiming he had become a scapegoat for the team’s poor performances.
