Roma is looking for someone to take over the youth academy, hoping to improve results and, perhaps, kickstart the much-discussed U23 project.

One of the candidates the Roman club has been eyeing, writes TuttoSport, is Ruggero Ludergnani, but he’s not the only one.

In addition to the current Head of the Youth Sector at Torino, Roma has also reportedly been exploring Vincenzo Vergine, currently at AC Milan but previously at the Giallorossi from 2021 to 2023, and Massimo Tarantino, who heads Inter’s youth academy.

The favorite, however, would be Ludergnani, who has a young age on his side. He’ll turn 40 next April, and the clubs he’s worked with have consistently produced exciting talent and developed dozens of young players.

He’s worked alongside Davide Vagnati his entire career, starting with SPAL’s historic climb from Lega Pro to Serie A. Torino’s recent separation from the manager and former player has sparked a glimmer of hope for the Giallorossi.

Contacts for the young manager had already been in place three years ago, and now, without his mentor, the Roman club is ready to step forward in search of a breakthrough.

It won’t be easy to convince Torino: he’s tied to the club with a contract until 2027, and Urbano Cairo has high regard for him and has no intention of letting him go.
