Roma has made initial contact for Atlético Madrid striker Giacomo Raspadori, viewing him as a key January transfer target. This pursuit is driven by manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who previously attempted to sign the player during his time at Atalanta, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The report indicates that Gasperini has had a long-standing interest in the attacker, having explicitly asked Atalanta to sign him almost two years ago. The current Roma coach believes Raspadori is a perfect fit for his system, which needs a player who is fast, quick, capable of a short sprint, and also able to link play and perform one-on-ones.
Roma’s management has already started weaving the net by speaking directly with the player’s entourage, including a key intermediary, and the response has been positive. Raspadori, who has only played 291 minutes across 11 appearances this season for Atlético, is open to the idea of a move to secure more playing time.
The 25-year-old was bought by Atlético last summer for €22 million plus €4 million in bonuses. Roma’s preferred formula is a loan with a right-to-buy clause set around €20-22 million, an arrangement that could satisfy all parties involved, including the Spanish club who could register a small capital gain. The next step for Roma is to open talks with Atlético Madrid.
